Unfortunately, disappointment with national politics overshadowed Local Elections, of that there's no doubt, along with reprehensible campaign tactics from an opposition Party. But we can hold our heads high and declare we ran an honest and clean campaign, based on Fact not Fiction!
Thank you to all our Local Elections 2024 candidates. Commiserations to sitting councillors who lost their seats, Councillors Cherry Brooks - South East Purbeck Ward, Jean Dunseith - Chickerell Ward and Peter Wharf - West Purbeck Ward, and including Jan Bergman former Cllr for Preston Ward - Weymouth Town Council who was unsuccessful in being elected to represent Upwey & Broadwey Ward. Your years of service have been appreciated.
To those candidates who stepped up to nominate themselves for the first time but were unsuccessful, please don't let it deter you from running again. Tenacity is a fundamental requirement in politics and By-Elections can happen.
Congratulations to our re-elected councillors and those newly elected. Go forth and serve!
Some like to moan about things but others are proactive in gaining nomination for election to have influence on policy-making and decision-taking. If you're interested in making a difference to your community and would like to run for council, contact us!
